Removing and installing/replacing both VANOS actuators (B36 engine) (Cooper base)
Special tools required:
- 2 360 895
Preliminary work needed:
- Remove ACOUSTIC COVER .
- Remove INTAKE SILENCER HOUSING .
Removal:
Release clamps (1).
Remove clean air pipe (2).
Unlock the cable routing (1) in the marked areas and detach it off the cylinder head cover in upward direction.
Release and disconnect the connector (1) for the actuator intake.
Release and disconnect the connector (2) for the actuator exhaust.
Twist the actuator intake (1) with special tool 2 360 895 approx. 50° in the arrow direction and remove.
Twist the actuator exhaust (1) with special tool 2 360 895 approx. 50° in the arrow direction and remove.
Installation:
Position actuator exhaust (1) and turn in the arrow direction with special tool 2 360 895, until the stop lies against the clamp.
Position actuator intake (1) and turn in the arrow direction with special tool 2 360 895, until the stop lies against the clamp.
Connect the connector (1) for the actuator intake.
Connect the connector (2) for the actuator exhaust.
Clip the cable routing (1) into the cylinder head cover from the top.
Make sure that the locks in the marked areas are correctly locked.
Install clean air pipe (2) and fasten with clamps (1).
Required follow-up work:
- Install INTAKE SILENCER HOUSING .
- Install ACOUSTIC COVER .
- Check engine operation and check for leak tightness
