Steering Column: Installation
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 42 other vehicles, including the 2003 BMW 530i, 2003 BMW 525i, 2002 BMW M5, 2002 BMW 540i, and 2002 BMW 530i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure installation of screw (1), spacer tube (2), guide bush (3) and shim (4). See Fig 1.
- Install bracket (1), spacer (2), bolt (3), plastic guide, inside face slightly greased (4), washer (5), and replace self-locking nut (6). See Figure. Tighten nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Fit spacer tube and tighten shear-off bolts until heads shear off.
- Ensure clamping screw locates in retaining groove in steering spindle. See Figure. Replace self-locking nut and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Check position of collar (1) relative to snap ring (2). See Figure.
- Carry out steering angle offset for Electronic Damper Control/Dynamic Stability Control. See BMW Diagnosis Program.
- Check for freedom of movement over entire adjustment range of steering column to adjoining components and wires.
