32 31 215 Removing And Installing/Replacing Double Joint For Lower Steering Spindle

NOTE:
After installing a new double joint, it is essential to move the power steering gear to the straight-ahead position. Markings on cap and on housing must line up.
If the steering wheel is positioned at an angle:
- Remove steering wheel, refer to 32 33 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING STEERING WHEEL
- Remove marking on lower section of steering spindle (abrasive paper)
- Attach steering wheel in straight-ahead position
- Apply new marking, e.g. center punch on lower section of steering spindle, flush with marking on steering wheel
- Install steering wheel, refer to 32 33 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING STEERING WHEEL
- Carry out steering angle sensor adjustment, refer to 61 31 996 CARRY OUT STEERING ANGLE SENSOR ADJUSTMENT
Release clamping screw.
Move steering wheel to straight-ahead position and remove ignition key.
Detach double joint from power steering gear.
Installation:
If necessary, move power steering gear to straight-ahead position- markings on cap and housing must match up.
Replace clamping screw.
Tightening torque, 32 31 1AZ. Refer to STEERING AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
Release screws and press heating valves to one side.
Release clamping screw.
Detach double joint from lower section of steering spindle and remove.
Installation:
Replace clamping screw.
Tightening torque, 32 31 1AZ. Refer to STEERING AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
