32 31 082 Removing and installing/replacing steering angle sensor

After installation:

Replacement only: Carry out programming/coding, refer to DIAGNOSIS PROGRAMMING/CODING
Carry out steering angle sensor adjustment, refer to 61 31 996 CARRY OUT STEERING ANGLE SENSOR ADJUSTMENT

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Disconnect battery negative lead, refer to 12 00... INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY
Remove trim for instrument panel at bottom left, refer to 51 45 180 REMOVING AND INSTALLING TRIM FOR INSTRUMENT PANEL, BOTTOM LEFT

Release clamping screw.

Move steering wheel to straight-ahead position and remove ignition key.

Press down on steering spindle.

Installation:

Clamping screw must rest in retaining groove of upper steering spindle.

Replace self-locking nut.

Tightening torque, 32 31 1AZ. Refer to STEERING AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Unfasten cable clip.

Detach steering angle sensor (1) from steering spindle.

Installation:

Pin of pivot mounting (2) must snap into place in steering angle sensor (1).

IMPORTANT: Secure cable with cable tie so that it is not tensioned when steering column is extended and retracted.
