32 31 082 Removing and installing/replacing steering angle sensor

After installation:
- Replacement only: Carry out programming/coding, refer to DIAGNOSIS PROGRAMMING/CODING
- Carry out steering angle sensor adjustment, refer to 61 31 996 CARRY OUT STEERING ANGLE SENSOR ADJUSTMENT
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Disconnect battery negative lead, refer to 12 00... INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY
- Remove trim for instrument panel at bottom left, refer to 51 45 180 REMOVING AND INSTALLING TRIM FOR INSTRUMENT PANEL, BOTTOM LEFT
Release clamping screw.
Move steering wheel to straight-ahead position and remove ignition key.
Press down on steering spindle.
Installation:
Clamping screw must rest in retaining groove of upper steering spindle.
Replace self-locking nut.
Tightening torque, 32 31 1AZ. Refer to STEERING AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
Unfasten cable clip.
Detach steering angle sensor (1) from steering spindle.
Installation:
Pin of pivot mounting (2) must snap into place in steering angle sensor (1).
IMPORTANT:
Secure cable with cable tie so that it is not tensioned when steering column is extended and retracted.
