Steering Column: Removal

- Disconnect negative battery cable.
- Move steering to straight ahead position.
- Remove trim panel for pedal assembly. See TRIM FOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY .
- Remove air duct in footwell.
- Remove lower trim from instrument panel. See INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER TRIM .
- Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL .
- Remove upper section of steering column trim. See STEERING COLUMN COVER UPPER SECTION .
- Remove screws (1). Pull out switch center for steering column stalk (2) in direction of arrow. Disconnect plug connections behind and remove switch center for steering column stalk. See Fig 1 .
- Disconnect plug connections on steering column.
- Detach wiring harness from steering column.
- Mark position of steering column in relation to instrument panel. See Fig 2 .
- Release clamping screw (1). Detach upper section of steering spindle from steering column and press downwards. See Fig 3 .
- Remove left and right bolts holding steering column to dashboard. See Fig 4 .
- Remove left and right bolts. Remove steering column. See Fig 5 .
- Remove steering column control unit from steering column. See STEERING COLUMN CONTROL UNIT (CIM) .
