Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2006 BMW X5, 2005 BMW X5, 2004 BMW X5, 2003 BMW X5, and 2002 BMW X5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove wheel.
  2. Release nut (1) and remove control arm from front axle support. Release nut (2) by only 3 thread turns so that control arm is not flung away when forced off. See Fig 1.
  3. Force control arm off swivel bearing with special tool (31 2 240). See Fig 2.
  4. Installation is reverse of removal. Ensure tapered spigot and bore are free of grease. Replace self-locking nuts and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Perform front axle alignment check. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES  under ADJUSTMENTS.
