61 35 196 Removing and installing (replacing) control unit for automatic operation of tailgate system

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage to tailgate!
The set value for the opening angle is stored in the control unit for automatic rear lid actuation. Therefore, when the control unit for automatic rear lid actuation is replaced, this value is lost and must be reset.
Before starting work, read out and make a note of the set value for the opening angle (refer to Owner's Handbook). If the set value can not be read out (control unit for automatic rear lid actuation faulty), the customer must be informed of this situation.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Disconnect plug connection (1).

Unlock catch (2) and remove control unit for automatic rear lid actuation (3) in direction of arrow from rear lid lift bracket (4).

Replacement: 

NOTE: From 03/2011, the control unit is installed with a different placement of connector chambers:
  1. Control unit to 03/2011
  2. Control unit from 03/2011

Replacement: 

When control unit (2) is installed in vehicles with a production date up to 03/2011, the wiring harness (3) must be retightened.

NOTE: Wiring harness length may vary dependent on the vehicle.

Undo a piece of the adhesive tape (4) if required. Retighten wiring harness (3) and secure to position (5) if required.
