61 21 010 Remove and install or replace battery

To ensure the correct safety and convenience functions, install only the original battery (battery size and type) stored in the vehicle order. OBSERVE NOTE ON BATTERY REPLACEMENT .

IMPORTANT:
Do not under any circumstances pull or lever safety battery terminal off by force.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove DISTRIBUTION BOX
Detach ventilation (1) in direction of arrow.
Open cover (2) and release nut (3).
Tightening torque 61 21 1AZ .
Detach safety battery terminal towards top, lay to one side and secure.
Release screws (4, 6) and remove brackets.
Release screw (5) and remove holder.
Lift battery out of luggage compartment.
Installation note:
Make sure battery is correctly seated in associated fixture.
Installation instructions for M-models:
- For crash reasons, positive battery cable must not be routed behind the battery!
- Positive battery cable must not be set against the ICM holder or against the screw connection of the earth cable!
Replacement:
- Read out fault memory, clear fault entries if necessary
- On vehicles with IBS (intelligent battery sensor) REGISTER BATTERY REPLACEMENT
