Disabling Double Lock

MODEL

R50 (Cooper), R53 (Cooper S) Vehicles before 9/02

SITUATION

On a customer request basis, double lock can be disabled. The procedure is not reimbursable under warranty.

PROCEDURE

  1. Disconnect the battery.
  2. Remove the driver's door panel (refer to repair Instruction 51 41 000)
  3. Remove the plug connector (X747) from the door lock motor. Unclip the door harness from inner door panel to provide access to the connector. In doing so, note the routing of the harness in preparation for reassembly.
  4. Spread out the locking tabs (1) and push down on the wires to release the outer part of the connector.

  8. Reassemble the plug connector. Reinstall the wiring harness (be sure to follow the correct routing - see step 3). Reinstall the plug connector into the door lock motor. Reinstall the driver's door panel.
  9. Repeat the procedure for the passenger's door lock motor connector X742.
  10. Reconnect the battery.
  11. Test for correct operation - sit in the vehicle with the doors closed, and lock the vehicle using the remote control. Check that both the driver's door and the passenger's door can be opened on the second pull of the door handle.
