Field Test

  1. Connect ohmmeter across rotor (field) slip rings. Rotor resistance should be 2-3 ohms. If not, rotor is defective. If reading is correct, connect ohmmeter between either slip ring and alternator frame.
  2. Ohmmeter should indicate infinity. If not, rotor is defective. If reading is correct, install voltage regulator and perform REGULATOR CONTROL VOLTAGE TEST.
