Steering Column: Removal

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable. Raise vehicle. Loosen steering shaft universal joint clamp bolt. Center steering wheel with wheels in straight-ahead position.
  2. Remove steering column upper and lower trim covers. Remove hood release bracket attaching screw. Remove lower instrument panel. Disconnect and label wires and connectors.
  3. Remove steering column mounting bracket attaching nuts and washers. Disconnect switch wiring connectors from turn signal, headlight connector, wiper/washer switch, horn connector, ignition switch gang, and ignition switch bullet connector.
  4. Pull upward on steering wheel to lift mounting bracket clear of mounting studs, and to disengage steering shaft from universal joint clamp. Remove steering column assembly.
