Removal And Installation
WARNING:
Keep the sliding inner cable of the accelerator cable, the accelerator pedal and the pedal shaft free of contact with surrounding components such as wiring, hoses, sound insulation and floor carpeting. Contact in these areas may prevent movement of the accelerator cable, reducing the ability to decelerate the vehicle. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury to the vehicle occupant(s).
NOTE:
The accelerator pedal and shaft should travel smoothly from idle to wide-open throttle positions. Hesitation on return or prevention of return to the idle position must not occur.
NOTE:
The sliding inner member of the accelerator cable should not be lubricated and is not repairable.
- Remove the cable from the accelerator pedal.
- Remove the screw, pin-type retainer and the accelerator control cover shield.
- To install, tighten to 4 Nm (35 lb-in).
- Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle body.
- Squeeze the tabs and remove the accelerator cable from the bracket.
- Remove the accelerator cable bracket nut.
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
- Remove the accelerator cable pin-type retainer from the accelerator cable bracket.
- Remove the accelerator cable grommet from the dash panel.
- Remove the accelerator cable.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
