Differential Seals: Removal

NOTE: The seal is removed in 2 pieces. When installing the seal, it is installed as 1 piece.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
  2. Remove both halfshafts. For additional information, refer to FRONT DRIVE HALFSHAFTS article.
  3. NOTE: The differential seal is a 2-piece construction.
  4. Using the special tools, remove the LH differential seal.
    1. Rotate the special tool.
    2. Rotate the forcing screw while holding the front cover seal remover.
    3. Remove the metal protector from the LH differential seal and remove protector from tool.

  6. Using the special tools, remove the rubber portion of the LH differential seal.
    1. Install the special tool into left differential seal and rotate the special tool.
    2. Rotate the forcing screw while holding the special tool.
    3. Remove the rubber portion of the seal.

  8. Install the special tools into the RH differential seal.

  10. Using the special tools, remove the RH differential seal metal protector.
    1. Rotate the special tool.
    2. Rotate the forcing screw while holding the front cover seal remover.
    3. Remove the metal protector of the seal.

  12. Remove the rubber portion of the seal.
    1. Rotate the special tool.
    2. Rotate the forcing screw while holding the front cover seal remover.
    3. Remove the rubber portion of the seal.
