Memory Seat Position Sensor: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lincoln Navigator and 2004 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

    All horizontal position sensors

CAUTION: One end of the inboard drive cable will have a longer square drive than the opposite end. This is due to the longer square drive end having to pass through the seat position sensor and motor.
  1. Position the horizontal seat position sensor to the horizontal motor as noted during removal and push in on the sensor to install. Install the inboard cable with the longer square drive end going into the sensor and motor. Turn the cable and push in to engage to motor.
    • Check that both cables are engaged into the motor. The cables are engaged into the motor if there is resistance when turning the cable.
  2. Install the horizontal seat track motor and position sensor assembly. For additional information, refer to FRONT SEAT TRACK MOTOR - MEMORY SEAT .
  3. Install the seat track front cover.
  4. Horizontal position sensors with seat track stuck in full rear position

  5. Install the driver seat. For additional information, refer to FRONT SEAT - 40 PERCENT .
  6. All horizontal position sensors

  7. Repower the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
  8. Cycle the driver seat in its full range of travel in all directions or calibrate the DSM using a diagnostic tool.
  9. Horizontal position sensors with seat track stuck in full rear position

  10. With the seat in the full REAR position, move the seat forward 10-20 mm (0.4-0.8 inch).
  11. NOTE: The easy entry/easy exit feature can be activated or deactivated using a diagnostic tool or via the message center. For additional information, refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION or the owner's literature.
  12. Confirm correct operation of the DSM easy entry/easy exit feature.
    • Remove the ignition key to operate the DSM easy exit feature. The seat should move REARWARD. If the seat does not move REARWARD, refer to SEATS  to diagnose the non-functioning easy entry/easy exit feature.
    • Using the seat control switch, move the seat REARWARD. The seat should move REARWARD. If the seat does not move REARWARD, proceed to the next step.
  13. NOTE: The ignition switch must be ON to make sure the DSM is in "wake" mode to allow the voltage measurement.

  14. With the ignition switch ON, measure the voltage by back-probing between horizontal position sensor pin 2, circuit 442 (LG/OG) (positive lead of multimeter) and pin 3, circuit 447 (OG/RD) (ground lead of multimeter).
    • If the voltage is 0.5 volt or greater, install a new horizontal position sensor.
    • If the voltage is less than 0.5 volt, install a new DSM.
