Steering Gear Insulator

  1. Park the vehicle on dry and level pavement.

  2. Install a dial indicator and mounting base. Position the dial indicator on the steering gear housing. Zero the dial indicator.
  3. Apply a lateral force of 5 Kg (11 lb) to the steering wheel. Measure the steering gear housing movement.
    • If the housing measurement exceeds the steering gear housing movement specification, inspect the steering gear for loose bolts and damaged or worn mounting brackets and insulators. Tighten or install new components as necessary. Refer to POWER STEERING .
