Retrieving Fault Codes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Mercury Sable and 2003 Ford Taurus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Follow manufacturer's instructions for scan tool being used.
  2. After pressing START, all continuous DTCs will be displayed on scan tool screen. Record DTCs displayed for reference. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION  table. When continuous DTCs are cleared, they cannot be retrieved.
