Starter Motor Current Draw Test

CAUTION: Before testing starter motor, ensure transmission is in Park or Neutral (A/T), or clutch pedal is depressed (M/T).
  1. Ensure battery is fully charged. Ensure battery connections are clean and tight. Disconnect ignition coil harness connector to prevent engine from starting. Using a conventional ammeter, clamp inductive ammeter lead around all positive (or negative) battery cables.
  2. Connect remote starter switch to starter motor "S" and "B" terminals. See Fig 1. Crank engine for about 5 seconds and check amperage reading while cranking. If amperage draw is 140-220 amps, replace starter motor. See STARTER MOTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check system operation.
