Starter Motor Current Draw Test
CAUTION:
Before testing starter motor, ensure transmission is in Park or Neutral (A/T), or clutch pedal is depressed (M/T).
- Ensure battery is fully charged. Ensure battery connections are clean and tight. Disconnect ignition coil harness connector to prevent engine from starting. Using a conventional ammeter, clamp inductive ammeter lead around all positive (or negative) battery cables.
- Connect remote starter switch to starter motor "S" and "B" terminals. See Fig 1. Crank engine for about 5 seconds and check amperage reading while cranking. If amperage draw is 140-220 amps, replace starter motor. See STARTER MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check system operation.
