Retrieving Codes

NOTE: Central locking module may also be referred to as Central Security Module (CSM).

Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), located beneath instrument panel. Using NGS tester, perform data link diagnostics test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - COUGAR article. If NGS tester responds with CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70=ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, repair module communications concern. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - COUGAR article. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for central locking module, perform TEST B: NO COMMUNICATION WITH CENTRAL SECURITY MODULE  under SYSTEM TESTS. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Hybrid Electronic Cluster (HEC) module, perform TEST C: NO COMMUNICATION WITH HYBRID ELECTRONIC CLUSTER MODULE  under SYSTEM TESTS.

If NGS tester responds with SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Erase continuous DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform HEC and central locking module self-test. Perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See CENTRAL SECURITY MODULE DTC INDEX  and/or HYBRID ELECTRONIC CLUSTER MODULE DTC INDEX  table. Codes listed in these tables are only for testing covered in this article. For complete DTC listing, see MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - COUGAR article. If no DTCs are retrieved, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS.

(2) Repair appropriate circuit as necessary. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - COUGAR article.
(3) This DTC can be set because of many different reasons. If this DTC is set, repair system by symptom. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - COUGAR article.
(4) Repair appropriate circuit as necessary. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
(5) Using NGS tester, retrieve and document all continuous DTCs. Perform central locking module self-test. If DTC B1342 is retrieved again, replace central locking module.
(6) Repair appropriate circuit as necessary. See PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - COUGAR article.
(7) Central security module requires programming. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If DTC B2477 still exists after programming, replace central security module.
(8) If remote keyless entry system is operating properly and remote transmitters are programmed, replace central security module.

(2) Using NGS tester, retrieve and document all continuous DTCs. Perform Hybrid Electronic Cluster (HEC) module self-test. If DTC B1342 is retrieved again, replace hybrid electronic control module.
