Anti-Theft Systems - Active: Description

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation involving steering column components. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Do not apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.

The active anti-theft system is designed to prevent unauthorized entry into passenger compartment, luggage compartment, or engine compartment. When alarm is triggered, alarm system horn sounds and parking lights flash. This system also disables engine from starting. Some system functions may incorporate power door lock and remote keyless entry systems.

The active anti-theft system consists of central locking module, door ajar switches, interior scan sensors, engine compartment and liftgate/decklid switches, alarm system horn and system related wiring and relays. System is controlled by the central locking module and is protected by central junction box fuses No. 25 (20-amp), 30 (7.5-amp) and 34 (7.5-amp).

When armed, unauthorized entry is detected by ajar switches located in each door "B" pillar. A theft indicator light is located on instrument panel. Models with an electronic door lock system have a PANIC feature that operates in conjunction with anti-theft system and remote keyless entry system. When PANIC button on remote transmitter is pushed, alarm system horn will sound and parking lights will flash.
