Test D: DECKLID Inoperative

NOTE: Central Security Module (CSM) may also be referred to as anti-theft/central locking module.
  1. Close decklid. If New Generation Star (NGS) tester can communicate with Central Security Module (CSM), go to next step. If scan tool can not communicate with CSM, go to step  3 . If decklid does not remain closed, go to step  13 .
  2. Using NGS tester, perform CSM self-test. If DTC B1551 is present, go to step  10 . If DTC B1553 is present, go to step  15 . If DTC B1554 is present, go to step  13 . If DTC B1342 is present, replace CSM. If no DTCs are present, go to next step.
  3. Ensure decklid is securely closed. If scan tool can communicate with CSM, trigger CSM active command DECKLID UNLOCK. If scan tool can not communicate with CSM, using a fused (7.5-amp) jumper wire connected to ground, momentarily backprobe CSM Green 16-pin connector C451a terminal No. 3 (Black/Yellow wire). See Figure . On all applications, if decklid opens, go to next step. If decklid does not open, go to step  9 .
  4. If scan tool can not communicate with CSM, go to next step. If scan tool can communicate with CSM, monitor PID value for TRUNK_R. While observing PID value, activate decklid release switch. If PID value agrees with switch position, replace CSM. If PID value does not agree with switch position, go to step  6 .
  5. Turn ignition switch to Lock position. Disconnect CSM Green 16-pin connector C451a. Measure resistance between ground and CSM connector C451a terminal No. 2 (Orange/Black wire). See Figure . While observing DVOM, pressing decklid release switch. If resistance reading is less than 5 ohms when pressed, replace CSM. If resistance is 5 ohms or more when switch is pressed, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect decklid release switch connector. Measure resistance between ground and decklid release switch connector terminal No. 4 (Black wire). See Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
  7. Measure resistance between decklid release switch connector terminals No. 2 and 4 (component side). With decklid release switch depressed, resistance should be less than 5 ohms. With decklid release switch released, resistance should be more than 10 k/ohms. If resistance readings are as specified, go to next step. If resistance readings are not as specified, replace decklid release switch.
  8. Disconnect CSM Green 16-pin connector C451a (if connected). Measure resistance in Black/Yellow wire between decklid release switch connector terminal No. 2 and CSM connector C451a terminal No. 3. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/Yellow wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace CSM.
  9. Disconnect decklid release actuator connector. Measure resistance between ground and Black wire terminal of decklid release actuator connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
  10. Disconnect decklid release actuator connector (if connected). Measure voltage between ground and Orange/Black wire terminal of decklid release actuator connector while depressing decklid release switch. If reading is momentarily more than 10 volts, go to next step. If reading remains 10 volts or less, repair open or short in Orange/Black wire between decklid release actuator and CSM.
  11. Measure voltage between ground and Orange/Black wire of decklid release actuator connector. If voltage is not present, go to next step. If any voltage is indicated, repair short to power in Orange/Black wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  12. Using a fused jumper wire, connect positive battery voltage to Orange/Black wire terminal at decklid release actuator (component side). Momentarily connect another jumper between ground and Orange/Black wire terminal of decklid release actuator connector. If decklid release actuator operates, replace CSM. If decklid release actuator does not operate, replace decklid release actuator.
  13. Disconnect decklid release switch connector. Measure resistance between terminals No 2 and 4 of decklid release switch (component side). See Fig 1 . If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, replace decklid release switch.
  14. Disconnect CSM Green 16-pin connector C451a. Measure resistance between ground and CSM connector C451a terminal No. 3 (Black/Yellow wire). See Figure . If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Black/Yellow wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  15. Measure voltage between ground and CSM connector C451a terminal No. 2 (Orange/Black wire). See Figure . If any voltage is present, repair short to power in Orange/Black wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is not present, replace CSM.
