Test B: No Key Code Received/Damaged Encoded Ignition Key Or Use Of Non-Pats Key
NOTE:
If PCM is replaced, PCM MUST be reprogrammed and all ignition keys MUST be programmed into PCM. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
NOTE:
Encoded ignition keys must be Ford approved encoded PATS ignition keys. Unapproved PATS keys do not always operate correctly over different temperature ranges.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, retrieve and record continuous DTCs. Clear continuous DTCs and perform PCM self-test. If DTC B1600 is retrieved, go to next step. If no DTCs are retrieved, system is okay at this time. If any other DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE DTC INDEX table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Cut a NEW encoded ignition key. Using NEW key, turn ignition switch to RUN position. Program NEW key. See KEY PROGRAMMING - WITHOUT USING 2 PROGRAMMED KEYS under PROGRAMMING. Clear continuous PCM DTCs. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, retrieve PCM continuous DTCs.
Install a new PATS transceiver. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Clear continuous DTCs. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove NEW key from ignition. Using customers old key, turn ignition switch to RUN position. Retrieve continuous PCM DTCs. If DTC B1600 exists, replace PCM. If no DTCs are retrieved, system is okay at this time. If any other DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE DTC INDEX table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
