Leaf Spring: Installation
NOTE:
When installing the left leaf spring, ensure that the leaf spring front bolt is installed with the head of the bolt on the front mounting plate marked INNER and the threaded end of the bolt on the front mounting plate marked OUTER. When installing the right leaf spring, ensure that the leaf spring front bolt is installed with the head of the bolt on the front mounting plate marked OUTER and the threaded end of the bolt on the front mounting plate marked INNER.
- Position the front of the leaf spring between the front mounting plates.
- Install the leaf spring front bolt.
- Position the rear of the leaf spring below the chassis bushing and slide the shackle through the leaf spring and chassis bushing.
- Position the alignment bolt on the leaf spring with the pilot hole over the axle pad. See Figure
.NOTE: The wheel and tire assembly, hub/bearing assembly, shock absorber, backing plate and spindle are removed for clarity.
- Lower the vehicle until the leaf spring alignment bolt enters the pilot hole in the axle pad.
- Install the shackle end plate. See Fig 2 .
- Install the shackle nuts. See Fig 1 . Tighten the shackle nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the leaf spring front nut. See Fig 3 . Tighten the leaf spring front nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the two U-bolts, alignment bolt cover plate and U-bolt alignment plate.
- Install the four U-bolt nuts and washers. See Figure
. Tighten the U-bolt nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
.NOTE: The wheel and tire assembly, hub/bearing assembly, shock absorber, backing plate and spindle are removed for clarity.
- Lower the vehicle.
