Description & Operation

WARNING: Vehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting ANY repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
CAUTION: To prevent damaging the internal mechanism or outside rear view mirror glass, power and manual outside rear view mirrors which are frozen must be thawed prior to functioning. DO NOT attempt to free-up the power and manual outside rear view mirrors by pressing against the outside rear view mirror glass.
NOTE: Power and manual outside rear view mirrors should not be cleaned with a dry cloth or abrasive cleaning powders. Do not remove ice with a scraper. The power and manual outside rear view mirrors should only be cleaned with a soft, clean cloth and mild detergent and water or Ultra Clear Spray Glass Cleaner (E4AZ-19C507-AA), or equivalent, meeting Ford specification ESR-M14P5-A, otherwise damage to the reflective surface may result.

The power outside rear view mirror system includes two motorized outside rear view mirrors mounted on the front doors and a power outside rear view mirror control switch. Both power outside rear view mirrors fold back manually for close clearance maneuvering or to prevent damage in automatic car washes.

In the power outside rear view mirror systems, the right outside rear view mirror glass is convex shaped to give a wider field of view. The power outside rear view mirror control switch consists of a mirror selector knob and a lever to control vertical and horizontal movement. The power outside rear view mirror control switch is located on the instrument panel to the left of the steering column.
