Cruise Control System
Speed control system is electronically controlled and vacuum operated. Major components of the cruise control system are control switches, servo assembly, vehicle speed sensor, control actuator, brake on/off switch, speed control disengage switch, manual lever position switch, amplifier, diode junction box, relays and related wires and vacuum hoses. The system is operational only at speeds greater than 30 MPH.
The system is activated when ON switch is pressed and COAST/SET button is pressed. Vehicle will maintain set speed until new speed is set, brake pedal is pressed, or OFF switch is pressed. If system has been deactivated by pressing brake or clutch pedal, set speed can be regained by pressing and releasing RES/ACCEL button. When brake pedal is pressed, a signal from brake switch is sent to the amplifier, deactivating system through a vent valve in servo motor.
If a malfunction is detected in system, system will automatically cancel. Cruise indicator light on instrument panel will blink, warning driver of a problem. Speed control disengage switch provides an additional safety feature. When brake pedal is depressed, a signal is sent from disengage switch to amplifier, to deactivate operation. Disengage switch is located near top of brake pedal next to brake switch.
