Automatic Locking System

NOTE: For keyless entry module connector identification, see Fig 1 .
  1. Disconnect control module connectors. Check for continuity between pin No. 2 of connector C406 and ground. If continuity is present, go to next step. If no continuity is present, service circuit 57 to module.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect control module connector C406. With driver's seat empty, check for continuity between terminal No. 9 and terminal No. 2. If continuity is not present, go to step  4 . If continuity is present, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect driver's seat switch. Check for short between terminal No. 9 of connector C406 and ground. If short is present, repair short on White wire between control module and driver's seat switch. If short is not present, replace driver's seat switch.Repeat QUICK TEST  .
  4. Sit in driver's seat. Check for continuity between terminal No. 9 and 2 of connector C406 with driver's seat occupied. If resistance is present, go to step  6 . If no resistance is present, go to next step.
  5. Check for continuity between terminal No. 9 of connector C406 and White wire at driver's seat switch with driver's occupied. Check for continuity between White wire at driver's seat and ground. If continuity is present, service driver's seat switch. If continuity is not present, repair open in white wire between seat switch and control module or between seat switch and ground.
  6. Check for voltage between terminals No. 2 and 13 of connector C406. If more than 10 volts are present, go to next step. If less than 10 volts are present at connector C406, repair open or short in circuit 54B and 54C.Repeat QUICK TEST  .
  7. Ensure each courtesy light switch turns on corresponding courtesy light. if switches and courtesy lights come on, go to next step. If any switch or courtesy light does not operate, service switch or wire. Repeat QUICK TEST  .
  8. Disconnect module connector C418. With all doors closed, check for continuity between terminal No. 12 of connector C418 and ground. Is voltage zero volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, service short to V Battery or replace door switch that is shorted to V Battery. Repeat Quick Test  .
  9. Open one door at a time. All other doors must be closed. Measure voltage at terminal No. 12 of connector C418. Is voltage 10 volts or greater? If 10 volts or more when any door is opened, go to next step. If 10 volts or less for some door(s), service open or short in Circuit 53. Repeat Quick Test  .
  10. Turn ignition off. Measure voltage between connector C406, terminal No. 8 of module and ground. If reading is not greater than zero, go to next step. If reading is greater than zero, service ignition switch.Repeat QUICK TEST  .
  11. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between connector C406, terminal No. 8 of module connector and ground. If reading is greater than 10 volts, go to step  13 . If reading is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  12. Turn ignition off. Check for short between connector C406, terminal No. 8 of module connector and ground. Check for continuity between connector C406, terminal No. 8 and Purple/Orange wire of primary junction block. If continuity is present and short to ground is not, go to next step. If a short to ground or an open is present, repair Purple/Orange wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repeat QUICK TEST  .
  13. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between connector C406, terminal No. 10 of module connector and ground. Shift transmission into reverse. Measure voltage when transmission is shifted into all other positions. If reading is 10 volts or more in reverse and zero volts in all other gears, replace control module. If reading is less than 10 volts in reverse and greater than zero in all other gears, go to next step.
  14. Test backup switch function. Is backup switch functional? If yes, service open or short in Circuit 140. If no, replace or service backup light switch. Repeat Quick Test  .
  15. Connect ohmmeter between terminal No. 14 of connector C406 and ground. Lift door handle to open latch. Observe ohmmeter. Use screwdriver to completely close latch. If resistance is greater than 10,000 ohms with latch closed and less than 10 ohms with latch open, replace module. Repeat Quick Test  . If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms with latch closed, check and service door ajar switch circuit. If resistance is greater than 10 ohms with latch open, repeat Quick Test  .
