Field Circuit Drain Test
NOTE:
Connect voltmeter negative lead to alternator rear housing for following voltage readings.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect voltmeter positive lead to regulator terminal "F" screw. See Figure. Battery voltage should be present.
- If less than battery voltage is present, disconnect regulator wiring plug and connect voltmeter positive lead to wiring plug terminal "I". See Figure. Voltage should not be present. If voltage is present, repair wiring circuit "I" from ignition switch to eliminate voltage source.
- If no voltage is present, connect voltmeter positive lead to regulator wiring plug terminal "S". If voltage is not present, replace regulator.
- If voltage is present, disconnect alternator wiring plug. Connect voltmeter positive lead to regulator wiring plug terminal "S". If voltage is present, repair terminal "S" wiring circuit to alternator to eliminate voltage source. If no voltage is present, replace alternator rectifier assembly.
