Stator Coil Grounded Test

  1. This test is to determine if stator coil is operating properly. Remove stator from alternator. Set ohmmeter in "x1000" range.
  2. Connect one ohmmeter probe to one stator lead and other probe to stator laminated core. Ohmmeter reading should be infinity.
  3. If meter needle moves, stator winding is shorted to core and stator must be replaced. Repeat test for each stator lead.
NOTE: Do not touch hands to metal probes or to stator lead, or incorrect reading will result.
