Failure Mode Effects Management (FMEM)

FMEM is a back-up system strategy programmed in the ECA, designed to allow vehicle driveability should one or more of the sensor inputs fail. When a sensor input is perceived to be out of limits by the ECA, a back-up mode will be initiated. The ECA will substitute a fixed in-limit sensor value and continue to monitor the faulty sensor input. If the faulty sensor returns to within normal limits, ECA will return to normal engine running strategy. The MIL "Check Engine" light will remain on when FMEM is in effect.
