Cold Engine Speed Control (5.0L Only)
Fast idle speed position of the throttle valves is controlled by a fast idle cam connected to and positioned by a bimetal spring and electric positive heating element. A voltage of 7.3V is supplied to the heating element from the alternator stator only when the engine is running.
As bimetal is heated by electric heating element during engine warm-up, fast idle is reduced to curb idle. A vacuum actuated automatic kickdown motor is also used. Vacuum signal is controlled by the ECA.
