Draining & Refilling

  1. On C-3 and C-5 transmissions, disconnect fluid filler tube from transmission pan to drain fluid. Remove oil pan. On all other models, loosen oil pan attaching bolts and tap pan to break gasket seal. Allow fluid to drain, then remove oil pan bolts and oil pan.
  2. Remove and clean filter screen. Reinstall filter screen using a new gasket. Discard used filter and gasket. Install new filter and gasket. Clean oil pan and install new gasket. Connect fluid filler tube to oil pan and tighten fitting.
  3. Add 3 quarts transmission fluid through filler tube. Check fluid level as described. When filling a dry transmission and converter, refer to Transmission Refill Capacities chart.
  4. Recheck fluid level when transmission as at normal operating temperatures. DO NOT overfill.
