REPAIR
Use of the Rotunda Black Light Oil Leak Detector Lamp may be used on all gasoline engines and is a positive way to identify "hard to find" engine oil leaks. See the following diagnostic procedure:
- To remove all traces of oil, clean the engine with a suitable solvent.
- If the engine oil is found to be contaminated or dirty, change the oil and filter.
- Cut off the end of the spout of a one-ounce container of Rotunda No. 072-00008 fluorescent additive with a pair of scissors or other suitable tool. Empty one container of additive to the engine oil.
- Allow five minutes for the Rotunda No. 072-00007 Black Light Detector to warm up after running the engine for 15 minutes.
- Using the black light detector, stop the engine and inspect all seal and gasket areas. A bright contrasting yellow-green fluorescence indicates a leak.
- If flywheel bolt threads are improperly sealed or possible oil leakage is occurring to improperly sealed, loose or cracked gallery plugs, use the black light detector to locate these additional areas.
- Service all leaks as required.
After the inspection it is not harmful to engine components for the fluorescent additive to remain in the engine.
The Rotunda Black Light Leak Detector (No. 072-0007) and Fluorescent Additive (No. 072-0008) is available through Rotunda equipment.
