SERVICE INFORMATION
Most 1983-89 Ford Motor Co. vehicles with a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) may have TPS mounting screws that are difficult to remove with an ordinary Phillips screwdriver. Ford Motor Co. TPS mounting screws have a "Pozidrive" head that appears like a Phillips screw head. The use of a Phillips head screwdriver to remove a "Pozidrive" screw may cause a rounded or damaged screw head.
Beginning with model year 1988, an adhesive thread sealant was used on the TPS screws. This adhesive requires additional effort to loosen and remove the screw.
To prevent damaged screw heads when servicing the TPS mounting screws, always use a No. 2 "Pozidrive" screwdriver.
