SUBJECT

5-Speed High Shift Efforts With Manual Transmission.

REFERENCE

Ford Technical Service Bulletin No. 83-7-8

CONDITION AND CAUSE

High shift efforts during break-in may be exhibited on some early 1983 production 2.3L Mustang/Capris with 5-speed manual transmissions/ M50D.

REPAIR

The addition of two ounces of friction modifier additive, part no. (C8AZ-19B546-A), will significantly reduce shift efforts.

1. Raising the vehicle on a hoist, remove the transmission fill plug. Siphon out about one pint of the transmission fluid.
2. Add two ounces of friction modifier additive, part no. (C8AZ- 19B546-A).
3. Top off with manual transmission fluid, part no. (D8DZ-19C547-A), to the bottom of the filler plug.
4. Install the fill plug. Torque to 10-20 ft. lbs. (14-27 N.m). Wipe the transmission dry. Lower the vehicle.
