The Blind Spot Assist radar sensor at rear left and the Blind Spot Assist radar sensor at rear right are mounted on the respective inner side of the rear bumper.
Task
The Blind Spot Assist radar sensor at rear left and the Blind Spot Assist radar sensor at rear right recognize vehicles in blind spot.
Furthermore the Blind Spot Assist radar sensor at rear left and the Blind Spot Assist radar sensor at rear right have the following tasks:
- Reading in of signals
- Evaluate the input signals
- Output of signals
Reading in of signals
The Blind Spot Assist radar sensor at rear right (Master) reads in the following input signals via the front end CAN (CAN G):
- Status information of the Blind Spot Assist radar sensor at rear left
- Detection data of the Blind Spot Assist radar sensor at rear left
- Status of circuit 15 from the electronic ignition lock control unit (EIS) (N73)
- "Circuit 61 ON" (engine run) from the CDI control unit (N3/33) (with engine 651) or ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/34) (with engine 274) via the chassis CAN (CAN E) and electronic ignition lock control unit (EIS)
- "Circuit 61 ON" (engine runs) from CDI control unit (N3/36) (with engine 622) via the chassis CAN and electronic ignition lock control unit (EIS) (model 447.6/7)
- Wheel rotation directions: direction of movement of the vehicle, from Electronic Stability Program control unit (ESP) (N30/4) via the chassis CAN and electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS)
- Wheel speed from Electronic Stability Program control unit (ESP) via chassis CAN and electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS)
- Vehicle speed from Electronic Stability Program control unit (ESP) via chassis CAN and electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS)
- Combination switch status (S4) from steering column tube module control unit (MRM) (N80) via the chassis CAN and electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS)
- Status of Blind Spot Assist from IC control unit (KI) (A1/1) via the user interface CAN (CAN HMI), Gateway for user interface CAN (N93/4), chassis CAN and electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) (model 447.8 or model 448.8)
- Status of Blind Spot Assist from instrument cluster control unit (KI) via the chassis CAN and electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) (model 447.6/7)
- Status of AHE (with code Q50 (Trailer hitch removable ball head) or with code Q22 (Trailer hitch fixed ball head) from trailer recognition control unit (AAG) (N28/1) via the interior CAN (CAN B) and electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS)
Evaluate the input signals
The input signals are evaluated by the integral microprocessor in the Blind Spot Assist radar sensor at rear right (Master).
Output of signals
The Blind Spot Assist radar sensor at rear right (Master) transmits the following signals via the front end CAN:
- IC speaker request (H4/61) via the electronic ignition lock control unit (EIS), passed on via the chassis CAN, Gateway for user interface CAN, user interface CAN to the IC control unit (KI) (model 447.8 or model 448.8)
- Request for IC speaker over the electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS), passed on via the chassis CAN to the IC control unit (KI) (model 447.6/7)
- Multifunction display request (A1/1p13) via the electronic ignition lock control unit (EIS), passed on via the chassis CAN, Gateway for user interface CAN, user interface CAN to the IC control unit (KI), (model 447.8 or model 448.8)
- Request of multifunction display over electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS), passed on via chassis CAN to IC control unit (KI) (model 447.6/7)
- Readiness and Blind Spot Assist warning indicator on the left request (M21/4e3) via the electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS), passed on via the interior CAN to the left front door control unit (N69/3)
- Readiness and Blind Spot Assist warning indicator on the right request (M21/5e3) via the electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS), passed on via the interior CAN to the right front door control unit (N69/4)
Body
The rear left Blind Spot Assist radar sensor and rear right Blind Spot Assist radar sensor are ultra wideband radar sensors with the following properties:
- Detection range s = 0.5 to 3 m, at a resolution of s = 0.04 m
- Detection angle of ∠ = 80° with angle measurement and ∠ = 140° detection only
- Carrier frequency: f = 24 GHz
- Method of operation: short pulse method with f = 5 GHz band width
Function
The rear left Blind Spot Assist radar sensor and rear right Blind Spot Assist radar sensor work according to the "Master-Slave principle". The "master function" is provided for the rear right Blind Spot Assist radar sensor. In other words, the rear left Blind Spot Assist radar sensor transmits its information via the front end CAN to the rear right Blind Spot Assist radar sensor, which evaluates the information and passes on the corresponding requests or data via the front end CAN to the control units affected.
The "Master function" is established by 2 additional ground connections (coding).
