Two versions of the air conditioning system are installed:
- Air conditioning system with 2-zone temperature control (with code 580 (Air conditioning))
- Air conditioning system with 3-zone temperature control and separately controlled air distribution (with code 581 (Automatic air conditioning))
The air conditioning system is controlled by the climate control control unit (N22/1) in each case.
The air conditioning system with 2-zone temperature control (with code 580 (Air conditioning)) has temperature control for the driver and front passenger area. Blower control uses 1-zone regulation and it can be operated both manually and automatically.
The air conditioning system with 3-zone temperature control (with code 581 (Automatic air conditioning)) is equipped with separate temperature and air distribution control for the driver and front passenger area as well as for the rear area. The blowers have 2-zone regulation for the front and rear area and can be operated both manually and automatically.
Vehicles with code 1U6 (Refrigerant R744)
The air conditioning system is operated using refrigerant R744 (CO 2 ).
R744 offers the following advantages when compared with the synthetic refrigerant R134a (up to 30.06.2016) or R1234yf (with code 2U8 (Alternative refrigerant):
- R744 is a naturally-occurring substance and available in practically unlimited amounts.
- R744 is a by-product of industrial processes and it does not need to be manufactured using complex procedures.
- R744 is neither toxic, nor combustible.
- R744 does not exert any influence on global warming.
- R744 does not pollute the environment when it leaks.
A/C systems operated with R744 are designed to be significantly more pressure-resistant.
The climate control includes the following sub-functions described in separate documents:
- Heated windshield (with CODE 597 (Heated windshield))
- Rear window heater
- Refrigerant circuit
- Climate control regulation
- Auxiliary climate control (for hybrid vehicles)
