Remove/Install Starter - AR15.30-P-7100XGC

Engine 177 in model 463 

as of model year 2019

WARNING Risk of injury.  Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

  Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Disconnect ground line from battery.   AR54.10-P-0003XG
2 Remove lower engine compartment paneling.   AR61.20-P-1105XG
3 Remove low-temperature circuit switchover valve mounting support.   AR09.41-P-1240XGC
4 Remove cover (2) of the electric line circuit 30 (3).    
5 Remove nut of the circuit 30 electric line (3). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, connection for terminal designation 30 *BA15.30-P-1004-01T 
6 Remove nut of the circuit 50 electric line (4). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, connection for terminal designation 50 *BA15.30-P-1003-01T 
7 Disconnect electric line circuit 30 (3) from starter (M1).    
8 Disconnect electric line circuit 50 (4) from starter (M1).    
9 Remove engine support at the front right.   AR22.10-P-4322XGC
10 Remove bolts (1). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, starter to crankcase and transmission *BA15.30-P-1001-01T 
11 Remove starter (M1) downward.    
12 Check pinion of the starter (M1) for wear and damage. If there is a problem,

Replace starter (M1).
 
13 Turn engine at center bolt of the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation and check starter ring gear on the flywheel for wear and damage. If the pinion of the starter (M1) is damaged.

    If there is a problem,

replace die drive plate.

14 Install in the reverse order.    
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.
 
Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
15 Perform engine test run and check starter (M1 for proper operation.
