Location

The Drive Unit control unit is installed in the front right footwell.

Tasks

The drive unit control unit coordinates the transmission modes.

The following transmission modes can be selected:

IMPORTANT Shown in Audio/COMAND display (A40/8):

The transmission modes, as well as the representation of the all-wheel visualization, are shown in the Audio/COMAND display.

On model 290, further tasks include the reception and forwarding of signals from the touchpad (A105), Audio/COMAND control panel (except code 446 (Touchpad only)), upper control panel control unit (N72/1), left lower control panel (N72/4) or right lower control panel (N72/5).

On vehicles with code B26 (AMG Aerodynamics Package) the Drive Unit control unit actuates the rear spoiler functions over the rear wing control unit (N170).

On vehicles with code 466 (Active engine mount) and/or code 467 (Electronic locking differential) the Drive Unit control unit also reads in the signals from various sensors over the CAN network, and uses them to calculate the specified status of the active engine mount and the locking ratio for the electronic differential lock.

Vehicles with code U88 (AMG steering wheel buttons (AMG DRIVE UNIT)) are equipped with a steering wheel control system. This means that the lower button group 1 for the multifunction steering wheel (S163/3) or the lower button group 2 for the multifunction steering wheel (S163/4) can be used, e.g. to make the following settings: ESP®, suspension, transmission, engine start/stop, exhaust gas flap actuation and drive program.

Coding

The Drive Unit control unit is codable and programmable, i.e., the complete software in the control unit can be updated.

CAN network

The drive unit control unit is a participant of the following CAN network and exchanges data with other control units:

Suspension FlexRay (Flex E)

The Drive Unit control unit is a user on the suspension FlexRay and it exchanges data with other control units.

LIN network

The Drive Unit control unit exchanges data over the following LIN connections with the connected components:

Input and output signals

The following input signals are evaluated by the Drive Unit control unit and the corresponding output signals are issued:

Direct input/output signals

Input factors and output factors for the following components are read in or output over direct lines by the Drive Unit control unit:
