Heat Management, Basic Function - GF07.10-P-9900A
Engine all (CAR)
General
Heat management controls and regulates the heat balance in the vehicle. The heat flux of one system can be used or dissipated by another system.
Function
Heat management essentially controls and regulates the following systems:
- Engine cooling
- Transmission cooling, in automatic and dual-clutch transmissions
- Charge air cooling
- Vehicle interior heating
Heat management is controlled by the combustion engine control unit and the powertrain control unit. The combustion engine control unit regulates and controls liquid cooling in the engine. The powertrain control unit controls and regulates air cooling in the engine, as well as the components to be cooled that are cooled via the low-temperature circuit.
Efficient heat management has the following advantages:
- Rapid attainment of the optimum operating temperature
- Reduction of the exhaust emissions
- Fuel savings
- Improved heating comfort
The control and regulation of heat management essentially depends on the following signals:
- Engine load
- Intake air temperature
- Boost pressure
- Charge air temperature upstream of throttle valve (spark-ignition engines)
- Charge air downstream of throttle valve (spark-ignition engines)
- Coolant temperature
- Diesel particulate filter temperature (diesel engines)
- DPF pressure differential (diesel engines)
- Accelerator pedal position and accelerator pedal operation
- Fuel temperature
- Engine speed
- Combustion engine control unit temperature
- Outside temperature
- Wheel speed
- Transmission oil temperature (automatic and dual-clutch transmissions)
