Mentor Program Development Process: Notes

There are several important steps to developing a successful mentor program:

  1. Develop a customized ROI model.
  2. Develop a mentor compensation package.
  3. Design a mentor uniform.
  4. Develop a tracking and reporting system.
  5. Develop trainee materials (e.g., workbook-manual or electronic)
  6. Develop a mentor training and development system.
  7. Identify the number and skill level of mentors needed.
  8. Identify appropriate mentor qualifications/requirements.
  9. Assess mentor candidate qualifications.
  10. Train and certify mentor(s).
  11. Develop a control system to include ongoing evaluations and updates.
  12. Formally launch program.

Keep in mind that the program (e.g., workbooks, processes, etc.) must be scaled to the size and scope of your business. Let's now take a look at each of these steps in greater detail.
