Example illustration of oil pump
General
The oil pump in the automatic transmission is used for various tasks. It also transports oil for:
- Coolant in torque converter
- Generation of compressive forces for multidisk brakes and multiplate clutch
- Working oil for gearshift
- Lubricating oil for planetary gear sets
The hydraulic pressure is set in the transmission control.
The oil pump was developed, among other things, for optimum efficiency in order to minimize the CO2
output.
Function
The primary pump is an oil pump according to the vane principle, which is placed next to the main shaft as an "Off-axis" design and driven by a chain.
