Front axle propeller shaft to front axle transmission
Front axle transmission output 4MATIC in general
Torque transmission from the front axle transmission output (4) of the transfer case to the front axle transmission is provided by a propeller shaft (5). The transmission-end universal joint (3) of the front axle transmission propeller shaft is integrated into the driven gear (5) is (2) of the front axle transmission output (4).
The propeller shaft tube is pushed onto the joint fork of the front axle transmission output (4) through drive-type splines.
The universal joints (3) have to be mounted in straight alignment with each other to ensure uniform transfer of rotation.
The propeller shaft (5) on the front axle transmission is bolted on using a propeller shaft flange (7) to the drive pinion of the front axle transmission.
Universal joints (3)
Generally, a universal joint (3) that runs under an angular offset generates an unequal rotary motion.
If the angular offsets that are generated between the axles of the propeller shaft tube and the joint forks are equal, and if they are on the same level, the unequal values of both universal joints (3) are compensated for. The power take-off speed of the propeller shaft (5) at the front axle transmission is thus uniform.
