Mentor Training And Development System
Mentors must keep their skills relevant. As vehicle technology evolves, so must the skills of the mentor. A common mistake is to send a new technician to training while a mentor's skills fall behind. Equally important are the mentor's non-technical or "soft" skills. Communication, on-the-job-training, coaching, Giving feedback, training delivery, problem solving and teamwork are a few key soft skill areas that a mentor will likely need to be successful.
The technical level requirements of the mentor should match or exceed the level of technical work required of the trainee after he or she graduates from the program. Shared mentor responsibilities must be clear and coordinated. The mentor training plan should be constructed to include both mentor and trainee time.
