General
The fuel tank (1) serves to store the fuel.
The fuel tank (1) is made, as standard, of a 7-layer plastic and is designed in a country- as well as equipment-dependent design as a pressure tank system with aluminium tanks.
It is divided into two fuel tanks chambers due to its U-shaped recess.
The fuel feed module is located in the right fuel tank chamber. It consists of a housing with an integrated suction jet pump, the fuel pump and the right-hand fuel tank fuel level indicator fill level sensor.
The housing of the fuel feed module serves as a swirl pot.
During cornering with a low fuel level in the fuel tank (1), it prevents the fuel pump from intaking air. A fuel strainer is installed at the bottom as a coarse filter for the fuel pump feed.
In the left fuel tank chamber, you will find the closing plate with connection fittings, a suction jet pump and the left-hand fuel tank fuel level indicator fill level sensor.
Function
The fuel is stored in the fuel tank (1).
The fuel pump draws the fuel from the fuel feed module through a fuel strainer. The fuel pump then pumps the suctioned fuel through the fuel filter to the high-pressure pump.
The leak fuel of the fuel injectors, the lubricating fuel of the high-pressure pump and the return fuel from the pressure regulating valve and from the high-pressure pump are returned to the fuel tank (1) via the fuel return. Here, the returned fuel supplies both suction jet pumps.
When the fill level of the fuel tank (1) is low, the swirl pot is additionally filled with fuel from the fuel tank (1) by the suction jet pump in the fuel delivery module.
The suction jet pump in the left fuel tank chamber guarantees that the left fuel tank chamber is emptied.
