Tracking And Reporting
Mentor programs can fail due to insufficient attention by management; therefore, it is important to develop a systematic way of providing visibility to trainee progress at a local, regional and/or corporate level. To track and report progress to management, consider using the following metrics:
- Turnover
- Warranty/policy
- Rework
- Lost business
- New business
- Safety
- Trainee progress
- Mentor qualifications
Additionally, the following skills can be assessed by the mentor, shop manager, customer and/or shop employees:
- Customer service
- Verbal communication
- Written communications
- Housekeeping
- Teamwork
- Professionalism
Reports can be defined by date or a simple checkmark is adequate with a final date of completion. Always tailor reports based on company operation and requirements. (See Figure
