Location

The WSS control unit is located in the seat frame of the front passenger seat.

Task

The WSS control unit has the following tasks:

Reading in of sensors

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

Direct line

The signals from the following sensors are read in via a direct line:

Evaluation of input factors

The WSS control unit determines the weight (person or child seat) on the front passenger seat. This is determined using a pressure measurement from the seat occupied recognition pressure sensor in a gel mat filled with silicone. The tractive force on the belt is recorded by the belt tension sensor.

The WSS control unit calculates the corresponding weight class from the pressure and the belt tension.

Output of signals

The signals are output via the following connection:

Interior CAN

This information is sent via interior CAN to the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).

It sends the information via chassis CAN (CAN E) (up to 28.2.13) or via chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1) (as of 1.3.13) to the supplemental restraint system control unit (N2/10).
