Location

Knock sensor 1 and knock sensor 2 are located on the left side on the crankcase.

Task

The knock sensor 1 and knock sensor 2 detect the vibrations on the crankcase which occur due to injection and the associated combustion in the individual cylinders.

The knock sensor 1 and knock sensor 2 transmits the detected vibrations as voltage pulse to the CDI control unit (N3/28).

Body

Knock sensor 1 and knock sensor 2 are composed of the following components:

Function

The vibrations on the crankcase are transmitted over a seismic mass on an inner piezoelement and are converted into electrical voltage pulses.

IMPORTANT The information obtained from evaluation of the signals of the knock sensor 1 and knock sensor 2 from the CDI control unit is used for zero quantity calibration of cylinder 1 injector (Y76/14), the cylinder 2 injector (Y76/15), the cylinder 3 injector (Y76/16) and the cylinder 4 injector (Y76/17).
