Transport Mode
All model 231s are shipped from the factory in activated transport mode. This is indicated by "TRANSPORT MODE" displaying on the instrument cluster. The message on the instrument cluster provides information on the current state of the battery or it issues a battery care instruction: Battery OK > Charge battery > Replace battery. It also displays the battery's remaining service life in days.
Note that a variety of vehicle functions are restricted, suppressed or adapted when in activated transport mode. See table below on functional restrictions.
The transport mode is to be deactivated as part of the delivery inspection prior to vehicle handover to the customer. See table: Deactivation. During deactivation ensure that "Battery OK" displays on the instrument cluster, if it displays something else proceed with the battery care instructions until "Battery OK" appears (Figure 1).
The resulting deactivation is to be documented on the OF document "Delivery inspection". The OF document for delivery inspection will be adapted accordingly for the market launch of model 231. Until then the "Vehicle with transport mode" or "Transport mode deactivated" comment is to be noted in writing on the form.
FUNCTIONAL RESTRICTIONS
| Systems/components: | Vehicle functions: |
|---|---|
| Longitudinal control (ESP) | Speed limit to 40 km/h |
| Locking mechanism (EIS) | Front passenger door and trunk lid are locked. |
| Vario roof | Open Vario roof not possible, close Vario roof possible. |
| Body controller (SAM/CBC/BC>F) | Monitoring of circuit 15 in standstill and acoustic feedback: If a vehicle is at a standstill for more than 10 seconds with the ignition switched on without the engine being started, the horn is activated. The horn can be switched off by turning to radio key position (circuit 15R) or by starting the engine. |
| Exterior lighting (SAM/CBC/BC) | Restriction of external lighting function: Rotary light switch function position is ignored. If the engine is running the driving lights are permanently switched on. High beams nonfunctional, flashing is possible. |
| Instrument cluster. | Display of active transport mode, the battery care instructions and the available remaining service life: In all there are four possible messages in the instrument cluster: "Battery OK" > "Charge battery" > "Replace battery," and a neutral message without any care instructions. |
| LV on>board electrical system management (SAM/CBC/BC>F) | Central control system of transport mode for overall vehicle. Determination of remaining service life. Generation of battery care instructions. Deactivation of comfort consumers (e.g. radio, seat heater) through consumer shutdown stages. Optimization of LV battery charging strategy for logistics process (e.g. deactivation of alternator management). Optimization of quiescent current management for logistics process. |
| Hybrid/HV energy management (ECM | Optimization of HV battery charging strategy (increased SOC operating point). Deactivation of purely electric journey. Deactivation of boost mode for DC/DC converter. |
