Navigation mode, function - GF82.85-P-2012RMU

After the navigation system has been activated by pressing the "NAV" button on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), the location of the vehicle, the direction and the distance to the destination (after entering the destination) are determined. The navigation processor (N41/1) calculates the data for reaching the destination (navigation).

IMPORTANT If the navigation digital versatile disk (DVD) is not in the drive, the message "Please insert navigation DVD" appears in the navigation display.

Destination entry 

The destination is entered menu-assisted on the control unit and is processed by the navigation processor (N41/1).

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) offers the following options for destination entry:

Dynamic supplementation 

The dynamic supplementation is realized when the destination is input manually. During entry of the destination, letters not yet entered are supplemented from a list using the input aid (speller). The supplemented characters have a black background. Deleting can be accomplished character by character.

Position finding 

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) continuously calculates the location of the vehicle using the following methods:

The navigation processor (N41/1) calculates the most likely position by constantly comparing the location results of these 3 methods.

Route calculation 

The route is calculated in the navigation processor (N41/1) after destination input or automatically after a deviation from the proposed route.

Route guidance 

Navigation starts once the navigation processor (N41/1) has carried out the route calculation 3 types of display can be selected for graphic navigation:

It is possible to change at will between the 3 types of presentation. The navigation is also supported by voice output from the vehicle loudspeakers.
