ME-SFI ignition system, general points
A single-spark ignition coil is plugged directly into each cylinder.
For the ignition system, the ME-SFI [ME] control unit reads the following sensors and signals:
- Hot film MAF sensor, engine load
- Intake air temperature sensor
- Crankshaft Hall sensor, engine speed and crankshaft position
- LH and RH intake camshaft Hall sensor, intake camshaft positions
- LH and RH exhaust camshaft Hall sensor, exhaust camshaft positions
- Coolant temperature sensor
- Knock sensor 1, right
- Left knock sensor 2
- Pressure sensor, intake manifold air pressure
The requirements of the engine torque requirement function are also taken into account.
For the following partial functions, ignition angle adjustment in the direction "retarded" or "advanced" takes place:
- Idle speed control
- Inertia fuel shutoff
- Transmission overload protection
- Knock sensor system
- Engine torque request
ME-SFI ignition system function sequence
The ME-SFI [ME] control unit interrupts the primary circuit at the respective ignition coil at the ground end at the moment of the firing point.
Determination of the ignition angle takes place dependent on a performance map according to input signals from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit.
Diagnosis:
The ignition angles can be checked only with the Diagnosis Assistance System (DAS).
