This function protects the shift elements of the automatic transmission from thermal overload during load changes in the upper engine speed range.

By brief retardation of the ignition and closing of the throttle valve during shift operations, the engine torque is reduced. For this purpose, the ME-SFI control unit is supplied with a signal from the transmission control unit via the CAN databus.
